Real freedom lies in the wilderness, and it has been waiting there for you all along. This Independence day, add to your bucket list, this traditional family run Pahadi lodge nestled in the midst of mountains on one side and apple orchards on the other in Chakrata, Uttarakhand, just 8 hours from Delhi.

With 2 cottages, each ideal for a family of 6-8 people, you will arrive here after a slightly bumpy ride and what catches your attention first amidst the dense deodar, oak and pine forests is the slate roof and walls of Kanasar Eco-Lodge. The crisp mountain air gives you a sense of being 'free' really means. The scenery is beautiful to say the least - between the trees and call of birds. The local homemade food is simple yet mouthwatering and rooms designed with a local and lovely aesthetic sense. And the starry night sky is simply out of the world!

The hosts of this lodge belong originally to the Jaunsari tribe, claiming their ancestry can be traced back to the Pandavas of Mahabharata. This area has been given protected status by the government since its rich in biodiversity, culture and architecture.

Being at this place will not just be an experience, it will become an integral part of your heart - the memory that you will go back again repeatedly to when you'll long calmness and warmth in life. It's a place that will relax the body, refresh your mind and be the 'rewind and renew' moment you're looking for.

Things to do: Nature walks, treks, night sky gazing, petting the animals around.

Current status: Likely to open in September. Follow the Uttarakhand travel restrictions.

Tariff: Approx 15k for one night for one cottage housing 6-8 people with all meals.
