Nestled amidst 10 acres of pine, oak and rhododendron trees , situated in a village in the Kumaon hills of Uttarakhand, is a 100 year old charming stone house which could prove to be the fairytale getaway you're looking for. Itmenaan Estate in the Himalayas.

The name says it all. Created to rest, relax and rejuvenate - it's the perfect place if you're looking to do nothing in a place where you wake up to panoramic hill views and have the forest at your doorstep. They have 5 rooms. No two rooms are identical and are constructed using the local stone architecture style, including the bathrooms (which also have large glass roofs to make them well lit and look beautiful). The food is a highlight - everything you'd like from local Kumaoni (Pahadi food), to North Indian to Western - is prepared perfectly using freshly plucked veggies. They have a lounge to just laze with family or read to your heart's content.

Things to do: Walking in the forest or to the nearby villages or temples, bird watching, cycling, Doing nothing, take a nice picnic lunch, enjoying a nice campfire with your glass of red wine, stargazing, photography especially at sunset time when the colours of the sky can't be missed.

Tariff: 5k onwards for room and breakfast

Best time to visit: Ideal time March-June and October - late November. You can see the snow in December- February.

PS: From the point where you park your car, the estate is an approx 15 min downhill walk, so for kids and elders you just need to be a bit cautious.
