Nestled within the thick Indian jungle in the Himalayan foothills (Corbett Tiger Reserve) is the rustic, exclusive and wonderfully peaceful Jim's Jungle Retreat- a perfect location for safari, birding and wildlife lovers who enjoy the little luxury touches which make staying here such an unforgettable experience.
A highly rated wildlife lodge, it offers an immersive jungle experience to its guests in over 15 acres of replanted forest. Only 18 independent cottages can be found here among water bodies, grasslands and mixed deciduous flora from the Terai planted decades ago.
The real luxury is the considerate service - whether that means organizing a picnic hamper for your family or a staff member bringing you a tall glass of icy numbu paani just about the time you start feeling a little hot and thirsty. Intuitive and yet not distracting in any way.
Surrounded by unbeatable forest and mountain vistas, the retreat is best known for its safari itineraries, and countless bird-spotting opportunities and instinct-sharpening walks and safaris are accompanied by the lodge’s qualified and extremely knowledgeable guides.
The open dining room is guaranteed to take you on an Indian culinary journey; there is an organic kitchen garden and farm which produces the freshest cuisine inspired by the Kumaon, the Raj and the newabi kitchens of Rampur. You will surely find ingredients like Pahadi lemons, dishes using crunchy jakhia seeds and favourites like the Kumaoni raita.
Despite the luxurious experience, Jim’s Jungle Retreat does not insulate guests from the wild, so you still feel like you’re within the jungle. Tiger pugmarks on the trails leading in and out of the property heighten that feeling. Cottages are hidden among trees, so that sitting in the balcony, you can see monkeys jumping among branches. There are small water bodies surrounded with foliage that are frequented by birds. To while away time between jungle safaris and nature walks, you can read a book in the lounge, get a massage at the spa, or take a pair of binoculars up to the birdwatching machan. This is in line with the retreat's logo that says 'Seek the tiger, find the jungle'. The tiger is the star of Corbett and that is what brings in visitors, but Jim's Jungle Retreat provides guests with an experience that ensures they fall in love with the forest itself.
