Just an hour away from the Taj Mahal, in the heart of the Chambal Valley, lies an oasis of tranquility nestling in sprawing acres of reclaimed woodland - Mela Kothi - The Chambal Safari Lodge. It's a peaceful and relaxing retreat with 35 acres of open land to explore and the place is so mesmerizing, you'd wish for it to be more than just a weekend getaway. Ideal for bird and wildlife enthusiasts - the National Chambal sanctuary, just a few miles away is a sanctuary for marsh crocodiles, gharial, ten types of turtle and various bird species.

Mela Kothi offers cozy heritage style rooms, comforting home cooked buffet of local specialities and contemporary Indian and Continental cuisine - all made from locally soirced and produced food.

The place offers lots to do, much beyond a visit to the Taj. Whether it is a River Safari on the calm waters of the Chambal river to provide spectacular sightings of turtlers, gharials or migratory birds or the Camel safari that carries you along the long forgotten trails of the ruins of Ater that will bring alive the romantic glory of a bygone age or the Jeep Safari through remote hamlets for excellent sightings of blackbuck deers.

A warm and welcoming haven for the eager explorer and weary traveller alike. Come prepared. This land will mesmerize you.
Plan to go only after the 1st October as the family run lodge operates only during October-April to enable the microenvironment in and around the lodge to regenerate and be fresh to welcome a new set of visitors. The animal fair at Bateshwar held during November, a few days before Diwali, with cattle, horses, camels, donkeys, religious shops and fair attractions is a brilliant kaleidoscope of colour and tradition - and a great time to visit.

Also, do remember to enjoy the al-fresco lunches followed by an afternoon nap in the hammocks strung between the Putranjiva trees in the area in front of the Kothi. The internet pay be a bit patchy but you could choose to sit and read at the library or even take a short village walk in the rural area around - to be one with a place completely untouched by tourism.
It offers great stay, fantastic food, smiling staff, a warm host and quick access to Delhi. If you are tired with your daily urban life - it'll help you do nothing, go back to your roots, rewind and renew you!
