A 7.5 hour drive from Delhi, takes you where your heart has always longed to be. In the middle of no-where. A quaint, peaceful destination Matial Village (1.5 hour ahead of Nainital) amidst 100 acres of untouched forests in the South Gola Range of the Himalayas with stunning views of the Nanda Devi parvat on clear days. And perched up on the top of the mountain nestled in these forests is an 80 year old Chestnut House that was built by a Indian scholar for his Polish doctor wife who longed for colder climates for her country, and that's now been converted into a cozy boutique homestay.

Each room is lovingly decorated in a unique theme with colour palettes inspired by flowers and berries. The giant windows overlook the most spectacular views you could ever wake up to and allow you to go to sleep looking at the twinkling lights in the homes far far away. The food at the resort consists of locally sourced fruit and vegetables in delicious preparations and they are happy to prepare Italian and Chinese dishes too.

Fresh air to fill your lungs, stunning views for eyes sore of staring at the walls in your home and fresh flavourful food - it's a perfect spot to abscond to and it'll give you stories you'll remember fondly for a long time to come!

Things to do: Jungle walk, Gaula river trail, Birdwatching, Enjoying board games like scrabble and monopoly (truly Rewind time!) and bonfire only in super chilly winter months. Enjoy the enormous diversity of plant, bird and insect life all around. They also organize some intimate workshops for art, craft and yoga that you could attend (called Cloudshops) and most of all enjoy the fresh air, mountain spring water and fresh local produce. Do nothing is a perfectly good plan too! The place is pet friendly so bring your furry friend along, but reserve prior for the pet as they only allow one pet at a time at the property.

Tariff: Approx 6k - 7.5k a night inclusive of meals and taxes

Status: Open now, Need a covid negative report and e-pass to travel to Uttarakhand

Note: You need to be sort of physically fit for this one coz the only way to reach the homestay is to do a moderate 45 minute trek through the forests and a path laden with peaches, plums and apple trees (talk of a better welcome!)
